At the 1970 U.S. Open, Rosie was seeded number two behind Margaret Court.  After defeating Kerry Melville in the quarterfinals and Virginia Wade in the semifinal, Rose went three sets against Court in the final.  With her victory, Margaret Court achieved a calendar-year Grand Slam.
